She was born in 1907 and lived in Vermillion, SD most of her life. When she was moved into a nursing home in 1996, the quilt top was given to me, as the most avid quilter in the family. I worked on it a little, but it is not really my style. She was so happy that I was working on it. But when she passed away, it went into the back of my closet. And no one else in the family is interested in it, so I am hoping to send it off to a good home! When I received it in 1998, I took it to my local quilt shop. One of the teachers there had written a book on antique quilts. I had her look at it and she said that most of the fabrics were from the 1930s with a few of the fabrics from the 1940s. I also was at Minnesota Quilters Show Lecture where I learned that this pattern was published in McCall's Magazine and called "Fancy Dresden." The only work that I did on it was to sew a few of the blocks together and start one of the scalloped borders...I personally do not like to use the "quilt as you go" method...which is probably why I never finished it.Each block is approximately 17.25" finishedInterior of quilt (blocks only) is approximately 69.5 x 88"Finished size once scalloped edges are attached should be approximately 78 x 96"Quilt was constructed using "quilt as you go" technique with a machine, with Dresden Plates then hand quilted on to quilt.Borders need to be attached and additional quilting is needed to finish the quiltBatting is flannel, background fabric is muslinMost of the fabrics are from the 1930s, with a few fabrics from the 1940sPattern was originally published in McCalls in the 1930s as "Fancy Dresden"No holes or tears in quilt topThere are a few stains, mostly on the back of the quilt and they are typical of the age of the quilt (see photos)Some of the muslin fabric in the borders was purchased in the 1990sExtra fabric and an extra "Fancy Dresden Plate" will be included - see photosExtra flannel 24" x 85" included to finish bordersShips withing one business day of receiving your payment!
